WELCOME TO MOSAIC ON A STICK

A place for community. A place for love. A place for art.

Home: Welcome

For nearly 20 years, Mosaic on a Stick and its owner Lori Greene have built a community hub for public art, public storytelling and racial equity work through youth and artistic workforce development. As a Black/Native woman artist, Lori Greene approaches her work with the understanding that like people and communities, a mosaic is created from broken pieces to create something new and beautiful.

Mosaic on a Stick’s art has come to define the greater Twin Cities and Minnesota through major installations at 15 schools, 10 community projects, and 25+ public art initiatives all around the state. Mosaic on a Stick also plays a role in maintaining community history in its rapidly evolving home neighborhood of the Hamline-Midway, a place that can be considered like a “heart” of the Twin Cities with a vibrant multi-ethnic community of immigrants and longtime residents alike. Mosaic on a Stick’s art can be found throughout the Midway and ward at the Midway Peace Park, the Midway mural project off Snelling Ave, Hamline Lutheran Church, Hamline Midway Library, and Can Can Wonderland.

Mosaic on a Stick is a Black, Indigenous, and woman-owned business with a mission to build community and promote social justice by providing accessible creative expression programs and space for everyone. As an art venture, Mosaic on a Stick naturally faces obstacles and challenges to meet its financial obligations, which have only been exacerbated by the massive interruptions of the pandemic.

Mosaic on a Stick is launching a fundraising campaign this summer to organize sustained community support for its continued presence out of the Hamline Park parks building in partnership with the City of Saint Paul. This grassroots community support will help Mosaic overcome the significant impacts to its business during the pandemic, as well as ensure its long-term stability as a beacon of Twin Cities and Minnesota public art.

STORIES IN PLACE

Seven Black filmmakers capture perspectives from behind the counters of their favorite neighborhood spots.

In the shadow of a global pandemic, economic collapse, and ongoing racial injustice, these films show the spectrum of experiences among Black small-business owners and their communities.
